The New York State School Boards Association is reacting to the recently completed 2013 legislative session.

Executive Director Tim Kremer says the session provided many postitive developments for schools.

He says lawmakers delivered an on-time budget with a one-billion dollar education aid increase that helped schools earn a 95-percent passage rate on the first budget vote this year.

Kremer also says lawmakers largely honored state school boards' "No New Mandates" campaign by passing only a handful of unfunded mandates compared to the many dozen under consideration.

He adds they also enacted legiislation that should help some school districts stabilize soaring pension costs.
