New York State Troopers have been training and using emergency first aid kits since 2008.

Earlier this month Troopers in Herkimer County were able to use one of these kits to save the life of a Newport man who was bleeding severely from a wound that cut his artery.

Captain Francis Coots of the state police said when dealing with situations in rural areas, these first aid kits save lives.

The first aid kits are carried in every marked Trooper vehicle and also contain an AED, trauma dressings and child birth and basic life support equipment.
