New York State Electric and Gas customers can expect larger bills soon.  The New York State Public Service Commission is giving the green light to rate changes for NYSEG and Rochester Electric and Gas that increase fees for electricity and natural gas delivery for the first time in four years.

NYSEG customers who get both gas and electric delivery from the utility will pay $184 more a year by July 2018.  The increase is being phased in over 2 years.

The first of the monthly increases for electricity delivery goes into effect next month.

The increases gained unanimous approval by the PSC June 15.

NYSEG and RG&E are owned by Iberdrola SA of Spain.

The company told regulators the increases were needed in order to maintain infrastructure, like the transmission lines, many of which had suffered damage from recent large storms.
