Albany, NY (WIBX) - This Superbowl weekend, drivers traveling along the thruway may see more patrol cars than usual, as the New York State Police crack down on drunk drivers.

A four-day awareness campaign, announced by the New York State Thruway Authority and State Police Troop T, will be set up this weekend in an attempt to minimize the amount of injuries and deaths caused by impaired driving.

Starting this Friday, ten saturation patrols will be conducted statewide. The patrols will remain until Monday.

Last year, as part of the Superbowl drunk driving initiative, Troop T officers issued 1,314 tickets and made 30 DWI arrests.
