Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente and Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri recognized local volunteer organizations for their service at the Oneida County Office Building.

They presented proclamations to AmeriCorps, Senior Corps and the Mohawk Valley Regional Volunteer Center.

Tuesday is Mayors Day of Recognition for National Service, an effort to recognize the positive impact of national service in cities and to thank those who serve.

The nation's mayors and counties are increasingly turning to national service and volunteerism as a cost-effective strategy to address challenges at a time of fiscal constraint.
