Utica, NY (WIBX) - One of Utica Mayor, Rob Palmieri's strategies to improve the lives of area residents has taken shape with the formation of the "Quality of Life Sweep" program. The initiative calls for his administration staff and department heads to join him in cleaning selected neighborhoods and address concerns raised by residents. Tomorrow, the Mayor is embarking on his 20th Sweep and has invited other elected officials to join him. "And that would be the Assemblyman [Anthony Brindisi], the State Senator [Joseph Griffo], I invited Richard Hanna, along with members of the Common Council and members of the Utica Board of Legislators, and I think at this point it's an opportunity for them to not only talk to people that are out there, but see first-hand some of the concerns that they [residents] may have and interact on a very comfortable level," Palmieri said.

The first-term mayor adds that the symbolism of other elected officials participating shows that the city is open for business. "We have a very strong relationship with all of our elected officials, whether they be Republicans, Conservative or Democrats, they represent the people as I do, and I think it's imperative that the people realize that we're working very well together," he said.

He says the invitation is open to anyone who wishes to join his team to advance the improvement efforts. The 20th Quality of Life Sweep, which Palmieri dubbed "Super Sweep" kicks-off at Noon at the intersection of Oriskany and Genesee Streets. So far, Palmieri and his team have covered nearly 34-miles of Utica streets.
