Utica fire officials are investigating the cause of an early morning fire that has claimed the life of one man and his dog.

Utica Fire Chief Russ Brooks tells WIBX that the call came in just after 3:00 a.m. Friday morning at 171 Victoria Lane.

Brooks said the name of the victim is not yet being released.

UPDATED 4:19 p.m.- Utica Police have released the name of the man who died in an early morning fire at 171 Victoria Lane.

The Onondaga County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the victim as 63-year old Lawrence Pavese.  The cause of death is still pending.

The  investigation by Utica Fire Marshals and Utica Police into the cause of the fire continues.
