Utica,  NY (WIBX) -The results of an independent audit of the Oneida County Board of Elections called for in December by County Executive Anthony Picente have been released.

The audit conducted by Bonadio and Company found that management at the Board of Elections misclassified the positions of programmers, custodians and technicians as independent contractors.

Based on the findings, those individuals should be classified as employees.

The audit also found the B-of-E failed to follow the County's purchasing laws, rules and procedures.

Picente says the report should be the start of major corrective actions at the Board of Elections.

He wants a corrective plan of action filed with the Board of Legislators by April 9th.
