The Oneida County Board of Legislators voted this week to place a ban on hydrofracking on county owned land.

The ban wasn't necessarily an urgent issue, as officials on the board say they have not been approached by the natural gas industry to inquire about fracking in Oneida County. Also, New York State has not given fracking the green light, as yet.

Republican legislator Dave Wood was among five who voted down the amendment, saying there is concern the ban would stifle any future debate. He also says there is good and bad with nearly all forms of energy.

Democrat Chad Davis was among those voting in favor of the ban.
