Oneida County and Griffiss International Airport in Rome are celebrating National Aviation Day.

National Aviation Day was established in 1939 by President Franklin Roosevelt and designated as August 19th in conjunction with the birthday of Orville Wright.

County Department of Aviation Commissioner Russell Stark says it's a chance to take a moment and remember the importance aviation plays in our every day lives and how it's shaped America.

Stark says the aviation industry is still shaping our region with the continued development of Unmanned Aircraft Systems technology in the Mohawk Valley.

Visitors to the airport on Friday and Saturday will receive a grab bag with some Griffiss "goodies."
