The Oneida County DMV Office is teaming up with the New York State Alliance for Donations and DMV offices around the state to raise awareness of organ and tissue donations.

April is designated as Donate Life Month nationally.

Nearly 9,500 New Yorkers are in need of lifesaving organ transplants and about 400 die each year due to a shortage of donors.

New York has the third largest need for donors in the country, but the second lowest percentage of registered donors.

You can enroll in the New York Donate Life Registry on the State Department of Motor Vehicles website.

"The more awareness we can build around donations, the more lives we can save and improve." said Oneida County Clerk Sandra DePerno.
