Utica, NY (WIBX) - Oneida County has been awarded an over $800,000 grant from the state to assist in efforts to remove debris from Sauquoit Creek.

County Executive Anthony Picente says the main focus of the cleanup will be loose debris and gargage along the 26-mile creek as the result of damage from Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee last year.

Picente says the county will hire 30 to 35 temporary workers to help with the cleanup, which is expected to be completed by the end of September.
