Marcy, NY (WIBX) - Greg Johnson will have another crack at winning election to the state Assembly's 116th district seat.

Johnson was the only candidate to screen for the seat during Tuesday's Oneida County Republican Committee meeting, chairman George Mitchell said.

Johnson will be formally endorsed by the party after Governor Cuomo calls for a special election to replace RoAnn Destito, Mitchell said.

Destito, who won re-election against Johnson last year, is awaiting confirmation as commissioner of the New York State Office of General Services.

Last month, county Democrats endorsed Utica School Board member Anthony Brindisi to run for the seat.

At Tuesday's meeting, the Oneida County GOP endorsed Erin Gall to run for the Supreme Court Justice seat that will be open following Samuel Hester's retirement.
