Call if you can, text if you can't.

That's the message as Oneida County Emergency Services is now employing new technology to allow for texting.

Director of Emergency Services Kevin Revere says residents can now send a text message to 9-1-1 during an emergency.

People with AT &T and Verizon will have access to the new feature -- but only text messages -- not videos or photos, will be accepted at this time.

Revere says they're looking to add more carriers in the future.

County Executive Anthony Picente says when they began consolidation of a countywide 9-1-1 system, they had these technological advances in mind.
