The Oneida County Correctional Facility is going green.

A grant proposal to build a new solar panel has been approved.as part of the New York-Sun Awards program.

The solar panel will be mounted on eight acres of land at the jail.

The Oneida County jail will become the first county jail in New York to produce solar energy on site.

Sheriff Rob Maciol says the solar project will save over $40,000 in the first year and nearly $2 million over 25 years.
