Many people will be out on the water this Memorial Day weekend and the Oneida County Sheriff's Office wants to make it a safe one.

Sheriff Rob Maciol says if you're out on a boat, make sure to obey the rules. Maciol says everyone should wear a life jacket -- it's mandatory for children under 12.

And Maciol says don't drink if you're operating a boat.  He says unfortunately, in his five years as Sheriff, there has been a fatality on the waterways in Oneida County every summer.

Maciol also says to watch your speed and show respect to other boaters.
