The Oneida County Sheriff's Office held its annual awards ceremony Thursday morning at the State Preparedness Training Center in Oriskany.

Sgt. Denise Luker was presented with the first ever Award of Excellence, which is the highest level of any non-combat recognition.

Luker has served in the Sheriff's Office since 1987.

The Medal of Honor was posthumously given to Sheriff's Deputy Charles Kammerlohr, who was killed in the line of duty in July of 1921.

Previously, the Sheriff's Office had no known record of his death.

And Sheriff Rob Maciol was recognized by his peers for his accomplishments during his first term as Oneida County Sheriff.
