The Oneida County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a newborn infant who was brought to the Rome Memorial Hospital Emergency Room early Thursday morning.

Sheriff Rob Maciol says the baby was brought to the hospital by his mother, where the infant was pronounced dead.

Maciol says the Sheriff's Office is conducting interviews and following up on leads.

An autopsy was conducted by the Onondaga County Medical Examiner's Office and the results are pending.

The Sheriff says further information will be released when the autopsy report is complete and all leads are followed up.
