Oriskany, NY (WIBX) - The Oneida County Sheriff's Office is seeking re-accreditation.

Sheriff Rob Maciol says his department is in the final year of a five year accreditation.

He says it signifies professionalism in 132 standards set by the state, including the handling of evidence, among many other things.

"Also, obviously your insurance carriers really look highly upon accredited agencies because you're meeting all these high standards. So, it certainly lowers the cost of liability insurance," Maciol said.

He said it is also beneficial in the competitive grant application process.

An inspection by the state is likely sometime this fall a re-accreditation should come by the end of the year, Maciol said.
