The Oneida County Sheriff's Office is warning the public of a telephone scam.

They say members of the public have been receiving phone calls from people claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service, collecting money or threatening arrest.

Authorities say do not send money or divulge personal information under these circumstances.

The IRS does not threaten to send representatives to taxpayers' homes to collect money and all initial contact regarding matters with the IRS is initiated through documents sent by mail.

To report these scams, call the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 800-366-4484 or visit treasury.gov/TIGTA.
