About 30 local law enforcement personnel attended a state-sponsored training session at the Oneida County STOP DWI Office in Oriskany today aimed at enhancing DWI enforcement.

The training targets convicted drunk drivers who break the law by operating vehicles without ignition interlock devices by circumventing them or tampering with the devices so they don't work.

The training is part of a pilot program funded by a $100,000 grant from the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee.  Oneida County is one of three counties to receive a grant.

The county will be conducting enhanced enforcement between Memorial Day and Labor Day targeting those who violate the state's ignition interlock requirements.

Members of the Utica and Rome Police Departments and the Oneida County District Attorney's Office Sheriff's Office and Probation attended today's three-hour training.
