Utica, NY (WIBX) - Oneida County will be doing away with its coroner system.

The Board of Legislators has voted 16-to-13 to a replace the county's four coroners with a medical examiner.

The medical examiner will be contracted through the county.

County Executive Anthony Picente say the move will give the county more oversight.

Sheriff Rob Maciol and District Attorney Scott McNamara both support the move.

The change will take place on January 1st.
