Oneida County will now solicit local attorneys when they hire outside counsel.

By law, the County Attorney's office must solicit at least three separate proposals and follow the County's procurement policy to hire outside counsel on a contract basis.

County Executive Anthony Picente says in most cases, a least one of the three proposals come from a local attorney or law firm.

County Attorney Greg Amoroso says what has long been an unofficial practice is now the rule going forward.

Picente is urging local governments to follow the same policy.
