Oneida Nation Files Lawsuit Against Lago Casino Project

The Oneida Indian Nation has filed a lawsuit against the State Gaming Commission over its decision to award a license to the Lago Casino project.

The Oneidas say the suit aims to make sure New York's gaming law is enforced.  They claim the selection of the Lago site did not meet the state's criteria for issuing a license.

The lawsuit says the Gaming Commission's selection process violated the law that mandated requiring new gaming facilities to prove they'll create new jobs, rather than cannibalizing local economies.

The lawsuit was filed in New York County on behalf of the Oneida Indian Nation and members of Casino Free Tyre.
