ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — The focus is on optics this week with the 100th annual meeting of the Optical Society in Rochester.

The Frontiers in Optics conference will highlight scientific breakthroughs and discoveries in what continues to be a growing industry in the upstate city, where the Optical Society began.

Organizers expect about 2,000 people to attend the four-day conference that begins Monday and includes sessions on emerging fields including photonics and virtual reality.

A special "Women of Light" symposium will feature female scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs working in the field.

The Frontiers in Optics conference coincides with the 32nd annual meeting of the American Physical Society's Division of Laser Science. The two organizations plan some joint sessions.
