The No. 4 Syracuse Orange responded to their first loss of the season with a 60-53 victory over the Cincinnati Bearcats (15-6, 5-3 Big East) on Monday night.

The Orange's loss to Notre Dame Saturday cost the team its No. 1 ranking in both national polls released earlier in the day Monday. The AP Top 25 has the Orange ranked third while the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll lists them fourth.

Kris Joseph again led the Orange (21-1, 8-1 Big East) offense with 17 points. Scoop Jardine added 13, Brandon Triche had 11.

'Cuse played its second straight game without center Fab Melo who is missing time for academic reasons.

For Jim Boeheim, the win puts him alone in fourth place on the all-time Division 1 coaching wins list (877), moving past Adolph Rupp, whom he tied last week.

Syracuse hosts West Virginia (15-5, 5-2 Big East) at 1:00 on Saturday.
