One of the stars from the hit Netflix series, "Orange is the New Black" has come out of a medically induced coma following a serious car accident two weeks ago, according to media reports.

Michelle Hurst, who plays 'Miss Claudette' on OITNB, has been in the intensive care unit at a hospital in North Carolina.  Colleagues told the NY Daily News that Hurst was put in the coma because of injuries to her spine following the car wreck.

The inspiration for the series and author of the memoir 'Orange is the New Black,' Piper Kerman, Tweeted out to fans of the show that Hurst had been seriously injured.

She directed followers to a website that was launched in an effort to raise money for the actress.

The website has raised nearly $13,000 by mid-day on Friday.  The Daily News reports that the money will be managed by Hurst's sister and will go towards treatment and lost wages, due to the accident.

Orange is the New Black is believed to be done filming and season two is expected to drop later this spring or early summer.
