A Chenango County man is accused of leading the New York State Police on a mile-long chase, ramming a patrol car and injuring a trooper.

State Police say they stopped 42-year-old Damion Burns of Oxford on August 28, 2015 after chasing him on State Route 12 in the Town of Greene.

Once stopped, authorities say he banged into the police car and injured a trooper while being taken into custody.

Authorities say Burns is charged with felony counts of assault, driving while intoxicated and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.  He’s also charged with misdemeanor unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, criminal mischief, criminal possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana and a number of traffic violations.

Troopers say the DWI count was a felony since Burns had a previous DWI conviction within the past ten years.  He also refused to submit to a breath test.

Burns was sent to the Chenango County Jail without bail.
