Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri has vetoed a law recently approved by the Common Council to increase the annual allocation for street paving in the city from $2 million to $5 million.

Palmieri says while he respects and appreciates the Council's desire to pave more city streets, after thoroughly examining and reviewing the proposal, he cannot support it.

Palmieri says while the Council projects a 0.74 percent property tax increase each year, he believes it will be much higher.

If the Council overrides the Mayor's veto, residents will vote on the measure in November.
