ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Gov. Andrew Cuomo has signed legislation that names stretches of highways in western New York and on Long Island in honor of American military heroes from the Empire State.

The Democrat on Tuesday signed a bill that names state Route 104 in the Niagara County town of Lewiston as the "General William 'Wild Bill' Donovan Memorial Highway."

Donovan, a Buffalo native, was a hero in both world wars, earning a Medal of Honor for his battlefield heroics during WWI and founding the Office of Strategic Services in WWII. The OSS was the forerunner of the CIA.

Cuomo also signed legislation naming a stretch of the Sunrise Highway in Suffolk County as the "Jolly 51 Memorial Bridge."

The name honors four U.S. Air Force members from New York who died when their helicopter crashed in Iraq in March.
