As Charlie Brown and Snoopy are perhaps best known for their classic holiday special ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas,’ it only makes sense that the new ‘Peanuts’ trailer debuts with a very Christmas-y feel. You have to wait until next Christmas to see the CGI ‘Peanuts’ movie, but you can get a taste of what it will look and feel like with this new trailer.

A modern-day CGI ‘Peanuts’ movie should be one of those things that starts everyone ranting about how Hollywood has run out of ideas, but as a self-professed Snoopy fan, this new movie actually looks well done. The characters in the film look like the classic characters (Marcie even has her blank white eyes) and even sound like the classic characters. And, that's not an accident: the movie uses archive sounds of Bill Melendez, who provided the original voices of Snoopy and Woodstock for the original animated specials before passing away in 2008.

We're not sure if we ever really needed a 3D, CGI ‘Peanuts’ movie, but if we had to have one, it could look a lot worse than this. (One minor complaint: it is still weird to see such cartoonish character designs with such photo real hair.)

One thing you shouldn't expect too much of: Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang themselves. There's only a brief glimpse of Charlie at the end (of course, with Lucy hectoring him) and much of the focus is on Snoopy and Woodstock. Like how a lot of the early ‘Frozen’ marketing was Olaf-centric, you can expect a lot of the ‘Peanuts’ marketing campaign to push Snoopy over his boy owner (and, ostensibly, the actual star of the movie).

In PEANUTS, a 3D, CGI animated comedic adventure, Snoopy, the world’s most lovable beagle – and flying ace! – embarks upon his greatest mission as he and his team take to the skies to pursue their arch-nemesis, while his best pal Charlie Brown begins his own epic quest back home.

While this trailer is Christmas themed and promotes the film as coming “Next Christmas,” ‘Peanuts’ actually releases on November 6, 2015, closer to Halloween than Christmas (and on the same day as the new James Bond movie).
