Petition Circulating Calls On President Obama To Pardon Steven Avery
The Netflix series Making A Murderer has inspired nearly 200,000 signatures on a Change.org petition that asks President Obama to pardon the murder conviction of Steven Avery, reports the Washington Post.
Avery's story has gained national attention following the recent release of the documentary detailing his wrongful conviction for a sexual assault - in which he spent nearly 20 years in prison - and his subsequent trial for the murder of Teresa Halbach.
However, the story notes that the president can only pardon federal convictions, while Avery's case falls under state jurisdiction.
