Utica, NY (WIBX) - The fifth anniversary of the Phoenix Firecamp is taking place next week.

The program is a week long camp for for teenage girls ages 14 to 19 interested in joining fire and emergency services.

Several local female fire officials will contribute their time and talent, and pay their own expenses to help mentor the teens.

The girls will stay at the Utica Fire Academy for the week to experience "firehouse living", and develop skills in teamwork, leadership, confidence, and problem solving.

By the end of the week, all 14 girls will be CPR certified.

The Fire Service Women of New York State, Inc. (FSWNYS), a statewide, non-profit association is sponsoring this experience.
