The Town of Whitestown Police are warning residents of fraudulent activity going on in town.

Police say, an elderly resident received a call from an unknown person claiming to be with a family member who was in urgent need of bail money.

According to authorities, the caller then handed the phone to another individual who falsely claimed to be the family member. In order to meet bail, the false family member requested the resident purchase Home Depot and Best Buy gift cards for the access codes on them.

These calls are specifically targeting the elderly. If you or a family member receives a call like this, be sure to not oblige the request. If activity persists, contact your local police agency.
