The destruction left in the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan is devastating, and unimaginable on so many levels.  The death toll is still being tallied, and probably will be for days and possibly weeks to come, as emergency personnel sift through the rubble that now covers much of the island nation of the Philippines.

As of this writing the Filipino government is confirming that there are more than 990 people known to have deceased.  That number is expected to rise, by some accounts, to nearly ten thousand dead.
