Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri and Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente are taking part in the Day of Recognition for National Service.

Palmieri and Picente presented proclamations to local AmeriCorp, Senior Corp and Mohawk Valley Volunteer members at the Parkway Senior Center in Utica.

Picente says volunteers help provide vital services to their community.

The activities in Oneida County are part of a national bipartisan effort to recognize the positive impact of national service, thank those who serve and encourage citizens to give back.

More than 2,000 city and county leaders across the country are participating in today's events.
