Several local police agencies have some new equipment to help keep officers safe.

Oneida County has purchased 51 Body Armor units at a cost of over $105,000 with money from the Oneida Indian Nation settlement.

County Executive Anthony Picente says this is the first disbursement of $5 million in Partners in Prosperity Funding included in the 2015 budget. Picente says other areas that will be funded include economic development, infrastructure and the arts.

Body armor was purchased for the Utica, New Hartford and Rome Police Departments, the Oneida County Sheriff's Office, the County Probation Department and the CNYSPCA.  The vests cost about $2,069 each.
