Michael Pineda took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and the Yankees mounted just enough offense to edge the Marlins 2-1 in the Bronx on Wednesday.

Pineda allowed a lead-off home run to Christian Yelich in the seventh, the only hit he yielded on the night and moved to 8-3 while striking out nine. New York's offense came by way of an Alex Rodriguez RBI single in the first inning, and an RBI single from Carlos Beltran in the fifth.

A-Rod went 2-2, giving him 2,997 career hits, three shy of 3,000 for his career.

The split four-game home and home series wraps up on Thursday night with New York's C.C. Sabathia taking on Miami's Mat Latos.
