PENFIELD, N.Y. (AP) — Police say a concerning email led them to discover a woman who was seriously injured in connection to an apparent murder-suicide in western New York.

The Democrat and Chronicle reports 52-year-old Arnold Ford Jr. sent the email to his employer Wednesday, prompting his employer to call 911 and other employees to go to his home and check on his welfare.

Ford's wife was found slain in their Penfield home, which is just east of Rochester. Police found Ford's mother, 75-year-old Florence Ford, suffering from serious injuries inside her home in nearby Riga.

Arnold Ford Jr. was found dead in his car from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in western Pennsylvania.

Florence Ford remains hospitalized in guarded condition. Police are still waiting to release the wife's name pending positive identification.
