ROYALTON, N.Y. (AP) — A county sheriff in upstate New York says a woman was killed when a drunk driver crashed into her vehicle while it was stopped on the side of a road.

The Niagara County Sheriff's Office says the crash occurred Saturday night when a driver pulled over on a road in the town of Royalton to clean the windshield. Sheriff James Voutour says while the vehicle was on the side of the road with its hazard lights on, a vehicle driven by 23-year-old Nathanial Miles, of Royalton, rear-ended the stopped vehicle.

A passenger in the first car, 58-year-old Mary Baccari, of Ramsonville, was seriously injured and taken to a hospital, where she died.

Miles is charged with manslaughter and driving while intoxicated. The district attorney's office didn't know yet if he has a lawyer.
