As part of a state funded grant program one local police department is paying cash for information leading to the arrest of anyone who has or deals with illegal firearms.

Making the distinction between this and a gun buyback program, authorities say the "GIVE" program - which stands for "Gun Involved Violence Elimination-" is meant to target street criminals who have guns illegally and therefore reduce gun violence.

Police are asking members of the public who know of anyone who is unlawfully carrying, selling, and using guns to call the Utica Police Department at: (315) 520.0842.  All calls will be kept confidential.  Those who provide information that leads to an arrest will receive a $500 reward.
