WEST TURIN, N.Y. (AP) — State police have identified a Hudson Valley woman as the pedestrian who was struck and killed by a vehicle while crossing a road in northern New York earlier this week.

Troopers say a 29-year-old man from Massena was traveling on state Route 12 early Monday morning when he approached a tractor-trailer parked on the shoulder of the road across from a gas station in the Lewis County town of West Turin, 50 miles (80 kilometers) northeast of Syracuse.

Police say a passenger got out of the tractor-trailer and walked into the path of the oncoming vehicle. She was taken to St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Utica, where she died from her injuries.

Troopers on Tuesday identified the woman as 50-year-old Bridget Weir, of Kingston.

Police say they don't expect to charge the driver who struck Weir.
