CHURCHVILLE, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say they're investigating the death of a 10-year-old western New York boy who police say had been left alone.

Monroe County Sheriff Patrick O'Flynn says deputies were called around 9:30 p.m. Monday to a home in the village of Churchville, about 10 mile west of Rochester. He says a 6-year-old in the home found his older brother unconscious and ran to the house of a neighbor who called 911.

O'Flynn says the 10-year-old was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, where he died late Tuesday night. Police haven't released the boy's name.

Deputies say the mother went to work Monday afternoon and left the children with her boyfriend. The sheriff says the boyfriend left the children alone to run an errand.

No one has been charged. The cause of death remains under investigation.
