Police Looking For 241 Bikes Missing From Sharing Program

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say more than 240 bikes have been stolen or have gone missing from a bike-sharing program in Rochester.

The Democrat and Chronicle of Rochester reports people have been able to tamper with the Pace bike share company's technology that locks and unlocks the bicycles at their racks.

Pace and the Rochester Police Department are working to recover the bikes, but police say they've only recovered a few.

Pace says the company will be changing its tracking system and shipping in new bikes to Rochester from Ithaca.

The company says it told the city it was looking at its user data to try to identify users whose bikes tended to disappear. According to Pace, 241 bikes were missing as of Monday.
