PENFIELD, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say a man killed his wife and seriously injured his mother in separate attacks in the women's Rochester-area homes before killing himself in western Pennsylvania.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says deputies responding to a call to check on a person's welfare Wednesday morning found a woman dead inside a home in the town of Penfield, just east of Rochester.

About 50 minutes later deputies responded to another home and found an unconscious woman at a house in the town of Riga, 20 miles (32 kilometers) southwest of Rochester. Police say she's in Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester with life-threatening injuries.

Police say the man believed to have carried out the attacks was later found dead from a self-inflected gunshot wound in his car in Erie, Pennsylvania.

The victims' names haven't been released.
