SCHROON, N.Y. (AP) — New York State Police say the driver killed in a weekend crash on the Adirondack Northway was a suspect in an armed robbery who was driving the wrong way while trying to elude troopers.

Authorities say Monday that 28-year-old Desmond Clark of Plattsburgh was wanted for questioning for an armed robbery in Keeseville when troopers spotted him driving south on Interstate 87 around 11 a.m. Sunday.

Troopers say he refused to pull over and drove across the median, heading south in the northbound lanes until he collided head-on with a pickup truck in the town of Schroon, in Essex County 80 miles (129 kilometers) north of Albany.

Clark was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man and woman in the pickup truck are being treated at an Albany hospital.
