POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) — Police are searching for a man who disappeared in the Hudson River in upstate New York.

Poughkeepsie police say they received a call of two swimmers in distress near Waryas Park around noon Tuesday.

The city fire department says firefighter Kenneth Deichler was able to pull one swimmer from the water, but the second swimmer could not be found.

The rescued swimmer has been hospitalized for treatment. Their condition has not been released.

Police say the missing swimmer is a man in his late 40s.

The search for him was suspended at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, and police say it will resume Wednesday morning.
