Police: Upstate NY Deputy Injured By Thrown Meth Chemicals

CHITTENANGO, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say a sheriff's deputy is hospitalized with serious injuries after he was hit with caustic chemicals from a methamphetamine-making operation in a central New York home.

The Post-Standard of Syracuse reports (http://bit.ly/2vLnmPh ) that investigators were conducting surveillance Tuesday night on a suspected meth lab in Chittenango in Madison County. The sheriff's office says a deputy from neighboring Oneida County confronted a 26-year-old man outside.

Officials say the man threw a meth-making device at the deputy, exposing both men o hazardous chemicals. The deputy was taken to a Syracuse hospital, where he's recovering from his injuries.

Police say the suspect also was taken to a hospital to be checked out. The charges against him include assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.
