Police: Utility Pole “Shattered” In Rt 5 Crash
New Hartford, NY (WIBX) - Route 5 was closed for about two hours following a crash that took down a utility pole Sunday evening, according to the New Hartford Police Department.
Electricity was alsio off for a while last evening in the surrounding neighborhood as National Grid made repairs.
Police say 63-year-old Francis Murphy of Clinton was headed westbound on Route 5 when he went off the road and hit the pole, 'shattering the police in half,' police said.
His vehicle went into a ditch and the jaws of life were used to extricate him from the vehicle.
Murphy wasn't seriously injured but he is charged with a misdemeanor count of DWI and was ticketed for failing to stay in his lane.
