CLAY, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say a central New York man has been charged with carjacking a woman's vehicle and sexually assaulting her after she struck him as he walked across a road.

The Onondaga County Sheriff's Office says a 36-year-old from neighboring Oswego County was making a turn in the town of Clay last Thursday afternoon when she hit a pedestrian at an intersection.

Deputies say the man jumped into the back seat of her vehicle, claimed he was armed and demanded money. Police say he forced the woman to drive to a nearby apartment complex, where he sexually assaulted her.

The man then fled on foot while the woman called 911. Witness descriptions of the suspect led police to the Liverpool residence of a 19-year-old man who was charged with kidnapping, robbery and sex act.
